While it may seem like a good idea to protect it from snow or ice,
covering your outdoor AC unit can actually attract unwanted guests — like mice, chipmunks, and other small rodents.
Here’s Why That’s a Problem:
- Rodents love warmth and shelter. A covered AC unit provides a cozy place for mice and squirrels to nest during cold months.
- Chewed wires = expensive repairs. Rodents often chew on electrical wiring and insulation inside your condenser, leading to serious damage when you turn your system back on in spring.
- Trapped moisture can cause corrosion. Covering your unit traps condensation, leading to rust and corrosion on coils and electrical components.

short, breathable top cover (no side coverage) to protect the fan blades — but make sure it’s designed for outdoor use and allows air circulation.
